Learning guitar.
I’ve struggled with piano and violin in the past. Now, I’ve decided to struggle with guitar. Here you’ll find notes and musings from my attempt to play the guitar. I’m using Justin Guitar and Yousician as my teachers.
Learn guitar with Yousician
Individualized feedback on each string played in a chord has been the most useful, powerful part of using the Yousician app. It has greatly improved my practice sessions. In this video, I demonstrate what that individualized feedback looks like and talk about how I use it to improve my own playing. No sponsorship going on. I just really like this app.
Learning guitar with online lessons and tools
Why am I learning guitar? How am I learning guitar? Why did I pick an electric guitar? In this video I answer these questions and share some tools for learning guitar with online tools from your home.
Keeping it fun
I’ve been using lessons from Justin Guitar since November. They’re excellent, and it is shocking that they are free. However, I found myself struggling to get excited to do the recommended practice on a regular basis. But, I find the Guitar-Hero-like interactive lessons feel more like playing a game than “practicing.” I don’t think I get as much technically from them as Justin Guitar’s practice sessions, but they’re making guitar more fun. And fun is the whole point anyway. I’ve decided to embrace that and mix Justin Guitar’s lessons with practicing using Yousician.
